Holiday Food Program

Each December, with the support of community partners, NAWC provides approximately one week of meals to hundreds of local families in need.

this year for the first time, we also provided a supermarket experience, enabling customers to select items their Families Prefer and Food they would definitely use.

The “supermarket” is created by many volunteers with the contributions of local schools, churches and businesses at the Memorial Hall of First Presbyterian Church in Newark — 292 W Main St, Newark, DE 19711.

Many volunteers are needed in mid-December during the four-day event period.

If you are interested in helping, please fill out the form on the Contact Us page and select “I would like to donate or volunteer for the Holiday Food Box program” from the form’s dropdown menu.

2022 Holiday Food Program Preparations

Holiday Food Program 2020 and 2021

The program was modified in 2020 and 2021 due to COVID-19. In order to keep volunteers, contributors, and food recipients healthy, rather than assembling and distributing boxes of food, NAWC provided grocery gift cards via USPS.

Hundreds of Newark Area Families in need were given Acme gift cards with holidays greetings from the Newark Area Welfare Committee.

A small group of masked volunteers gathered to assemble the holiday gifts —

Writing greetings and stuffing envelopes for Newark families!
